The Techbro Plan To Splinter The U.S. And Crash The Dollar
The "Network State" movement is popular with Silicon Valley elite
NOTE: Much of what I found for this story came from Jenny Cohn’s Bluesky account. She has meticulously organized information for years. Please give her a follow at: @jennycohn.bsky.social
So-called “Network States”, mini countries that use cryptocoin as currency and Libertarian ideals for their governmental structures, are the final stage of the future by men who advise and run the current U.S. government.
These men include some you’ve likely heard of, Marc Andreessen who advises DOGE, Peter Theil who is VP Vance’s mentor, Cutis Yarvin who Marc Andreessen and VP Vance consider a close friend, Vivek Ramaswamy who was going to work for DOGE and is now running for Governor of Ohio, Bajali Srinivasan who Marc Andreessen says “has the highest rate of output per minute of good new ideas of anybody I’ve ever met,” and many more who are currently working to make it a reality.
The basic theory is that Democracy itself is outdated and irrelevant because it allows people to do horrific things like have an 8-hour workday, healthcare, and parental leave. Those societal benefits must be limited to the wealthy elite who have actually earned them. The rest of the populace should spend their time producing goods or babies for the state.
Those who can’t do either, the disabled and the infirm, should be discarded.
“What I’m really calling for is something like tech Zionism,” said Bajai Srivivasan on a podcast in 2023. His proposal is for an army of “Grays”, citizens who wear gray t-shirts to demonstrate their loyalty to a tech brand or company, is like something out of a Ray Bradbury novel.
The shirts would be emblazoned with a Bitcoin logo, a photo of Elon Musk’s face, or whatever corporate devotion the wearer most identifies with. This would extend to their political loyalty, as the Grays would then move in lockstep with the brand or person they represent.
Furthermore, according to Bajai (he prefers going by just his first name like a modern Cher apparently), Grays are fiercely loyal to the police by hosting galas and banquets, and hiring their family members to lucrative positions:
“Grays should embrace the police, okay? All-in on the police,” said Srinivasan. “What does that mean? That’s, as I said, banquets. That means every policeman’s son, daughter, wife, cousin, you know, sibling, whatever, should get a job at a tech company in security.”
This would buy the loyalty of the police, once they’ve been properly vetted. One question Bajai proposes officers should be asked is: “Did you want to take the sign off of Elon’s building?”
The Grays’ natural political adversaries are the so-called “Blues”, the Democratic voters Bajai blames for San Francisco’s problems.
The apparent reference to Blues vs. Grays, what the two sides of the Civil War were called, is by design. A tech-backed civil war, including an elimination of paper money, is a key part of the play.
This is why Trump and Musk plan to go to Ft. Knox soon. When they “discover” much of the gold is missing, it will likely cause gold prices to skyrocket and the U.S. dollar to slide downward. Replacing the dollar standard with Bitcoin is a key objective of the Trump Regime and its techbro-supporters.
He also believes Elon’s transformation of Twitter into X, where Democratic political speech is suppressed and control is in the hands of tech-minded authoritarians, is the ideal model for all media.
The plan to remake San Francisco’s Presidio into a Network State has found footing in Trump Regime policy. $200 million meant to improve the Presidio area has been nixed by DOGE cuts, a key loss of possible infrastructure upgrades secured by Nancy Pelosi in 2023.
Late last year, Mark Lutter and Nick Allen wrote an article proposing the Presidio should be destroyed to make way for a new city free of “cultural and regulatory barriers”. This sounds exactly like the kind of Network State proposed by men like Bajai.
However, it’s not only the West Coast the techbros seek to remake. The Frontier Foundation has put forward a similar plan for Nashville, TN. In July of 2024, they held an event there featuring Erik Prince as a speaker:
Praxis, founded by Dryden Brown and supported by Peter Theil, proposes a Network State in Greenland. Trump has very famously been obsessed with taking over the nation, and it would appear it’s because Theil wants it for his own nation.
Bajai pops back up here, mentioned in this article outlining Prince’s remarks at this Praxis event:
So Prince, like Balaji Srinivasan, expects that the 20th century will prove to have been the high point of global centralization, with the future holding hundreds or thousands of smaller states, optimized for efficiency and competence.
This vision of neo-feudal techno-libertarian mercenary city-states appeals very strongly to a certain breed of right-wing technology brothers, who are already coalescing around a handful of hot cities in red states — particularly Austin, Dallas, Nashville, and Miami. (Something like half of the attendees at the IM-1776 event were from out of town, and a few cities were dramatically overrepresented.)
I was surprised to meet so many people who had moved to these cities with the same thesis that is bringing me to Austin later this summer.
We all basically believe that globalization is going to collapse, the US government is headed for military and fiscal catastrophe, and some form of soft balkanization or partition is inevitable.
The men in charge of policy and procedure at DOGE, who have been working feverishly to dismantle the infrastructure of the U.S. government, believe the balkanization of the nation is inevitable.
Their ultimate goal is to create splintered Network States populated by brand-loyal citizens who support them politically in tandem with local police who will eliminate political opposition.
When the dollar standard is no longer viable, something they hope to achieve as soon as possible, Trump’s sovereign wealth fund will be proposed as the savior.
Its coffers can be filled with the savings from cutting things like Medicaid and Social Security, and that money will be used to buy Bitcoin.
While any undergrad economics student would tell you such a plan is completely asinine, Musk will use his reach on Twitter to inspire countless podcast episodes touting the benefits.
It’s no longer a pipe dream by some Silicon Valley nutjobs, it’s official U.S. policy that is the motivation behind everything the Trump Regime is accomplishing.
